Fr. Hans' School Flourishing in Pakistan

There are two Salesian presences in Pakistan - in Quetta and Lahore. Last December I had the good fortune, on my way home from a conference in Rome, to visit the Don Bosco Technical Centre Lahore, which was built and opened by Australian Salesian Fr Hans Dopheide just ten years ago. A plaque at the front entrance is dedicated to Fr Hans, acknowledging that he established the school and directed it for three years before his health gave way and he returned to Australia.

Sr. Paula Vitale FMA Final Profession

Sr. Paula

On Saturday December 12 St Michael’s Parish Church at Leauva’a, Samoa was alive with activity and preparation as hundreds from the village gathered to witness the Final Public Profession of one of their own as a Salesian Sister. Sr Paula Vitale was born and raised in Leauva’a. She attended St Joseph’s Primary School in the Village and there had daily contact with the Salesian Sisters. When she finished her secondary education she returned to Leauva’a to help teach in the Kindergarten there. At the end of the year after the children’s graduation, it was announced, much to the surprise of her parents, that Miss Paula would not return the following year because she was going to join the Salesian Sisters. With the support of her surprised parents Paula joined the pre-Novitiate community at Moamoa and then Engadine, Sydney, before beginning her Novitiate in Broadmeadows, Melbourne, in 2003.
